About Dr. Velez
I earned my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Psychology and Marriage, Couple, and Family Therapy, as well as my Ph.D. in Counselor Education, from the University of Central Florida, a CACREP-accredited program. In addition to my role as a counselor educator at Florida State University, I am also a Certified Relationship Educator through the Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program and a National Certified Counselor with NBCC.
My clinical work and research have focused on supporting individuals and families navigating complex life experiences, with a strong emphasis on cultural identity, belonging, and relational well-being. As a therapist, I have a particular interest in working with couples, adolescents, and young adults navigating acculturative stress and identity development, as well as those experiencing relationship conflict, communication concerns, anxiety, and challenges with goal setting and life transitions. Offering services in both English and Spanish, I strive to create a warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel safe exploring their experiences. Whether you are navigating relationship challenges, feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, or seeking clarity in your next steps, I will work alongside you to better understand your experiences and develop tools aligned with your values and goals. I truly look forward to working together and being part of your journey!
